Chapter 94, LIGHTING, EXTERIOR
[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Muttontown 7-1-1973 as Art. 17 of the 1973 General Ordinance. Amendments noted where applicable.]
§ 94-1. Restrictions on installation and operation.
No person, firm or corporation or his or its agents, servants or employees shall install, operate or maintain on private property in the village any exterior light, lamp or other illumination except in compliance with § 94-2 hereof.
§ 94-2. Standards of operation.
A. All exterior lights, lamps and other illumination shall be so arranged, adjusted and operated with reflectors, refractors and screening that:
(1) The beam or any part thereof shall not project beyond the property line of the premises of the owner or occupant.
(2) No light shall be directed upon any surface which shall reflect the beam or any part thereof beyond the property line of the premises of the owner or occupant.
(3) The light therefrom impinging on the adjoining property shall not exceed 20 footcandles.
B. No flashing, fluorescent or neon exterior lights shall be permitted.
§ 94-3. Existing lights.
Any exterior lights, lamps and other illumination existing on the effective date of this chapter shall be brought into compliance with the provisions hereof within six months thereafter.
§ 94-4. Variances.
In cases of practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship, the Zoning Board of Appeals of the village, after a public hearing, may grant variances from the requirements of this chapter.
§ 94-5. Penalties for offenses.
Violations of this chapter shall be punishable as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II.
